The Kankakee County Finance Committee met today with most member attending via Skype. Among the issues discussed were raises for some elected officials who are up for re-election. The committee voted to recommend to the full board raises for the county auditor, the coroner, clerk of the circuit court and recorder. The total increase would add about 13,000 to the county’s budget over the next four years and bring the salaries in line with other elected officials like the Sheriff who got a raise when they were up for reelection two years ago. The increases were based on an analysis of officials pay in similar sized counties around the state. The committee also discussed how long the county and go during the statewide shutdown before they’ll need to start laying people off. County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler says they’re taking a wait and see attitude on that for now.
