The Daily Journal reports the Kankakee fire department will have to wait a bit longer to purchase an ambulance they were hoping to acquire last week. The vehicle is a demo model from Alexis Fire Equipment in Alexis, Illinois. The delay occurred when alderman at last week’s city council meeting didn’t know anything about it and tabled the purchase. The department failed to first bring the request to the proper committees for approval. The demo ambulance cost 167,000 dollars and was at the low end of estimates that went as high as 245,000 dollars. Fire officials say they will re-submit the request through proper channels. It will replace an 11 year old ambulance that’s no longer reliable.
